Last week, we welcomed a representative from Southwest Technical College who shared information about programs available to high school students, including Dual Enrollment, Youth Apprenticeship, and Start College Now.
These programs provide incredible opportunities for students to earn free college credits, gain real-world experience, and jump-start their career paths — all while still in high school! 🌟

Starting secondary school often means new technologies, more independence, and a wider online world. Internet Matters’ “Navigating Secondary School: Online Safety Guide” offers useful advice to help support your teen safely through this transition:
Understand what they’re doing online – From social apps (Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram) to streaming, gaming, and online learning, teens are more connected than ever.
Know the risks – Increased screen time can affect wellbeing, bring pressure to stay connected (FOMO), and can impact self-esteem.
Help them manage peer pressure – Discuss the difference between harmless banter and cyberbullying. Encourage them to speak up if something feels wrong.
Support their digital footprint – Remind them that what they share online can last forever and influence how others see them.
Work with the school – Learn the school’s policies on online safety, mentors, or anti-bullying programs, and know who to contact if issues arise.
